A current event is news that has just happened or will happen in the near future. Current events are often assigned by teachers for students to write about, or create oral presentations about, in order to teach research and writing skills.
When writing a current event article it is important to keep the five Ws and H in mind: What, when, where, who, and why. It is also good to know whether the topic has been covered in other media. If it has been, include this information in the article; it will make you seem more knowledgeable and trustworthy.
Start by choosing a reputable news source, such as a newspaper, magazine or television show. Avoid blogs and personal websites, which are more likely to contain opinion than factual news. If you are unsure where to find a trustworthy source, ask your teacher for suggestions.
Whether you are writing a current event summary or an essay, it is important to choose a topic that is relevant. This could mean news from the area where you live, or world news that has caught your interest. Examples of topics could be the Ukraine and Russia conflict, the Depp vs Heard case or the baby formula shortage.
